Standout news from the week was Apollo Global Management's announcement of a $5 billion investment vehicle targeting sports assets. For a PE giant managing $800+ billion in assets, that's what you might call ‘a strategic toe dip’.

August 2025 saw steady dealflow across the sports tech ecosystem, with a combined $460.6 million in total activity. This included $450.6M in funding across 13 rounds and a more modest $10M in disclosed M&A volume across 7 acquisitions.

Here’s a quick summary:

  • Geography: Funding was almost entirely concentrated in North America ($99.4M), with no reported volume from Europe or other regions.
    On the M&A side, North America accounted for 71.4% of deals by count, while Asia and Europe each contributed 14.3%.

  • Sectors: Both Funding & M&A was dominated ‘For Executives’. Funding at 66.3%, followed by ‘For Athletes’ at 24.6% and ‘For Fans’ at 9.1%.
    M&A activity ‘For Executives’ at 57.1%, with the remaining deals split between ‘For Fans’ at 28.6% and ‘For Athletes’ 14.3%.

  • Top Deals: SharpLink raised $264.5M in a post-IPO equity round, leading the month’s funding. And Galaxy Racer (GXR) was acquired by SEGG Media for $10M, the only disclosed M&A deal by value.
