If you haven’t been caught up on it yet, for the month of October, our spotlight was on Innovation in CricketTech.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which by the way might be the last one for the 50 over format, hasn’t exactly set the world alight yet but we’re still hopeful as the tournament reaches the business end soon. Semifinals are on Nov 15-16 with the final set for Nov 19 so if you haven’t yet got into the tournament, you still have time.

Meanwhile, we’ve been exploring the latest in CricketTech Startups – from AI powered coaching platforms to online coaching education to infrastructure solutions.

We’re about a month away from publishing the 5th edition of our SportsTech VC Report, summarising what’s been a really interesting year so far for SportsTech. 

Dealflow is at a low, not a lot money going around. Yet interest has never been higher with new funds are being almost announced every week. Curious times. We’ll get into it.

Top News from the World of SportsTech

More data in the hands of the players, this time by the Premier League who has partnered with Kitman Labs to provide a ‘Football Intelligence Platform‘ to all the club academies. The advanced analytics tool will support players’ progress in their “social, educational and cognitive development”.

Saudi Arabia will launch and host an annual Esports World Cup starting in the summer 2024. This is another step in gulf state’s aim of becoming a global hub for gaming. An aim towards which they will apparently invest over 37 billion dollars as part of their Vision 2030 plan. 

 We always have time for horses (IYKYK) and apparently so does AWS. They will partner with Horse Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) to bring the power of AI, ML and data analytics to improve equine safety and usher in a new era in horse racing.

More from YouTube TV, who had quite a few problems with their NFL coverage over the weekend, even tweeting themselves to acknowledge the issue. Not great timing, since this happened a couple of days after Morgan Stanley published a report expecting the streamer to lose 1.2 billion dollars per year till 2029.

Tennis Australia’s AO StartUps is back, taking applications for their 3rd cohort. Interested startups take note: last date to apply is 19 November. Scroll down to check out our podcast with them.

Funding News:

 Sports technology startup Grandstand has raised US$2.75 million to accelerate development of its athlete-focused content creation application. This tool is designed to help athletes better engage with their fans, offering interactive features, exclusive content, and financial opportunities.

Mumbai-based 100X.VC has announced a new portfolio of 15 startups, each of whom received $160K. Amongst those was Indian sports equipment rental company Sprentzo.
